Abstract

The article is devoted to the problem of the relationship between language and thinking, in particular, the  study of verbal means of expressing mentality. Ethnic mentality is a set of special features and characters,  containing the complexity of the spiritual, economic, ethnic and historical development of the people. In the  modern era, due to the intensification of intercultural contacts, one of the main cultural problems will be the  question of the possible loss of the national identity of peoples. And the best guarantee for the prevention of  such a phenomenon is the awareness of the intrinsic value of national languages as reflections of unique repositories of thinking, as derivatives of national mentalities. Language as a cultural phenomenon fixes and reflects the system of values, moods, evaluations, i.e. reveals the systematic image of the carriers of a particular  culture. The study of types of linguistic mentalities makes it possible to realize how behavioral stereotypes interlock with stereotypes that exist in the minds of people regarding the whole complex of traits characteristic of a particular people, which, in principle, is the basis of its mentality.
