Features of the formation of professional and general cultural competence of students of a technical university

Abstract

The article is devoted to the peculiarities of the formation of professional and general cultural competences of students of a technical University in the modernization of the educational process. The essence of the concept «competence» is revealed, various classifications of competences are given and analyzed. The article presents a list of modern educational approaches of interest to teachers of language subjects and aimed at the active intellectual development of the individual in higher education. The criteria for the formation of students’ professional and communicative competences in language teaching at a technical university are given. The
characteristic of learning technologies, which are popular in the university, is given. According to the results of the study, the author's vision of the activation of the educational process and the formation of professional competencies of students necessary for their professional self-realization in the future is presented.
