Abstract

The article contains common points between the description of the mental lexicon and the methodology of language teaching, information about the role and meaning of the mental lexicon in language teaching, its structure and differences from the vocabulary. It reveals the close connection of the dialect lexicon with lexical networks and associative groups. The descriptive method was chosen as the method of the article. Based on this, the article answers topical questions such as “How does the memorization of new words occur?”, “How do they get into the vocabulary and into active use?”, “What processes help words turn into speech?”. The article describes the study of the mental lexicon in Russian and foreign linguistics, considered in connection with various fields of science. It lists its features in language teaching and defines the basic principles.
