In this article, based on the material of» Tales of Tsar Saltan « by A. Pushkin, an attempt is made to describe the model of the paradox. The study of the paradox is undertaken in the context of the connection with the structure of the conflict and the plot, which contributes to the establishment of the peculiarities of the writer's method of working with the Russian folk tale. The method of work is considered both from the standpoint of Pushkin's deviation from the formal poetics of a folk tale, and the correlation of the syntagmatism of the plot and the paradigmatism of the plot. The structure of the paradox and the writer's work with a folk tale is shown by examples of the Christianization of the plot and images, ironic paraphrase and parody, and features of the
composition. The methods of syntactic parallelism are analyzed. The function of the antithesis is studied in the archetypal and plot varieties. The role and types of repetitions are investigated as plot staples. The principle of mirror plot symmetry is studied as a feature of the writer's work with a Russian folk tale. The author analyzes and explains the dual nature of the author's influence on the reader — a child and an adult: in the plot aspect from the point of view of the poetics of the miracle, in the plot aspect — in the aspect of manipulation, which helps to clarify the paradoxical nature of the Pushkin fairy tale. The syntagmatism of the plot became the basis for identifying the paradigmatism of the plot, which is built on a paradox that is created by deviations from the fairy-tale canon.
